Bleaching

Bleaching, or teeth whitening, is a procedure that brightens all types of teeth that are stained, discolored or even those darkened from injury or root canal treatment. This procedure is done by fabricating custom fitting trays for each arch, placing an oxidizing solution in the trays. The trays are then put into place. Generally this may take a few applications to obtain desired results. Advantages of take home bleaching are fewer dental visits, bleaching is done at individual pace and no tooth structure is removed. Occasional touch-ups are required over time.

Bonding

Tooth colored fillings, or bonding, is the procedure where tooth colored materials, such as composite resins are applied to the teeth. This procedure is done to cover discoloration, repair chips or breaks and fill gaps or spaces between teeth. These procedures can virtually be done in one visit. Bonding involves preparing the tooth surface to allow the bonding materials to adhere to the tooth. Various shades or colors are available to match and blend to your own teeth to give a natural appearance to the teeth. The materials are hardened via a special light. Finishing and contouring of the resin material is done to give each tooth a natural appearance.

Dental Implants

Dental implants provide a stable base for replacement teeth that look, feel and work like natural teeth. With dental implants, a person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat and smile with confidence. Implants can replace one tooth or several missing teeth.

Dental implants are cylinders made of titanium that are surgically implanted into the jaw. The jaw bone grows around the base of the implant, while the top protrudes through the gums. Once they are secure in the jaw, the posts serve as anchors for tooth replacements such as fixed crowns and bridges and secure removable dentures.

Endodontics

Endodontics, commonly known as Root Canals, is the diagnosis and treatment of problems inside the teeth, including the soft tissue known as the pulp or the nerve of the tooth. Damage to the nerve of a tooth may require treatment involving root canal therapy. In some instances, this may include small fractures, calcifications, dental decay and dead or dying teeth. Endodontics provides the opportunity to keep teeth that would otherwise be extracted.

Laser Dentistry

Lasers allow for many different treatments to the soft tissues of the mouth, including gingivitis, periodontitis, and gum disease. Other uses for the Nd:YAG laser are the removal of benign tumors, mouth ulcers, lesions from lupus, and lichen planus. The laser can also assist in cosmetic procedures for gum contouring and crown lengthening. A benefit of laser dentistry can be a reduction in post-surgical discomfort, and in some cases, local anesthesia is not needed.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the straightening of teeth. This is done using many different techniques available to the doctor by moving just teeth or in conjunction with moving the jaws and bones within, but with the same end results; straight teeth.

Why do we straighten teeth? There is not just one reason why we should have properly positioned teeth but the real benefit is we end up having a more pleasing smile. Teeth that are in their proper position are easier to keep clean, thus allowing us to have improved hygiene, and also place the teeth in proper or “ideal” position. This can aid in decreasing potential problems that develop from mal-positioned or crooked teeth, like cavities, from hard to clean areas to reducing the risk of periodontitis or gum disease.

Teeth were designed by God to perform specific functions which have enabled us to be omnivores and placing us at the head of the food chain. When our teeth are not in their correct positions this can cause excessive wear and potentially damage the teeth prematurely. The damages are normally not noticeable right away but rather when we reach our forth or fifth or more decades of life.

When do we start braces? Orthodontics should begin as soon as the dental problems are first noticed. Dr. Jennifer has patients being treated as young as six years old and as old as sixty-four. You are never too old to have your teeth properly positioned to allow for ideal function.

How are teeth straightened? The repositioning of teeth is done primarily with braces utilizing a “straight wire” technique. There is also orthopedic, movement of the bone of the jaws, as another way to help in the positioning of the jaws and teeth. This is best done during growth and development of the face and jaws of the child. This will allow for the jaws to be properly shaped and positioned for the future adult dentition.

Veneers

Veneers are custom made shells designed to cover the front side of teeth. These are primarily made from porcelain by a dental technician. Porcelain has a very natural tooth appearance.Veneers are designed to cover poorly shaped or crooked teeth, gaps or to lengthen or shorten teeth. Veneers may last from 3 to 12 years. This procedure of placing veneers is irreversible because the teeth must be prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to accommodate the thickness of the porcelain shell. Once a tooth is veneered it must be re-veneered over time or a crown may be needed if failure occurs.
